Letter to the Editor: Arkansas Green Party

Another Green Letter to the Editor, this one June 26 in the ironically named Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:

Give newcomers a try

Do you think gas and food are too high? Want to fix things? Well, signing your name on a banner is not going to do a thing. Not buying gas on Tuesday or wearing a purple shirt on Saturday won’t get it done, either.

However, there are four people going to Washington in November who just might help you out. Yes, I am talking about your senator and three of your four representatives. One of our representatives has got it in the bag; no challenger for him. But the other four have some opposition.

The Arkansas Green Party is running opposition to Sen. Mark Pryor and the representatives in Districts 2, 3 and 4. But what is the Arkansas Green Party? You never heard of it? You never heard of these people the party is running, either? That’s right, you never heard of them. They are regular Arkansas people. They don’t have big war chests and huge corporate backers.

The people of Arkansas have a stark choice this November: return the highpriced people who got us into this mess or give somebody you never heard of a shot at doing the job. You think they are going to make it worse? If you elect them, with no support, with no advertising, with no campaign assistance or soft money, for the first time in a long time you will have a representative.

PAUL McFARLAND
