GP Convention – More live blogging II

It is a little after 1 p.m., the morning stuff went late, and we were given 25 minutes for some 500 people to eat lunch and come back – not happening. Right at the end of the morning the woman they call “Isis” stood up and attempted to take the floor to speak, apparently to declare her intent to seek the Presidential nomination, but she failed in her attempt as the speakers gave the delegates the 25 minutes to eat food warning and everyone got up to leave.

We have two more keynotes – Jill Stein and Omar Lopez, and then the Presidential Nomination Vote. I’ll try to report the results here as they come in, but I may be the speaker for the Wisconsin Delegation so it may come a little late.

UPDATE
Jill Stein has begun to speak, primarily about the ecological challenges that we face now and the urgency for action. She is calling for a “Secure Green Future” program to reduce GHG emissions by 80% by 2020 “not next generation, NOW.” “Not a moratorium on Coal Plants, but CLOSE them.” She also talked about the CODE GREEN project they are working on.

UPDATE 1:30
Omar Lopez is beginning his keynote. Lopez is running for Congress in Illinois, and is a leader in the immigrant rights movement. He addressed the Delegates in Spanish first, then English. “Our communities (immigrant communities) live in a state of siege.” he said.

UPDATE 1:45
The Presidential voting is about to begin.
Some delay and some clarifications. Half votes do count in the first round only. 50%+1 of the votes cast here (Delegates and proxies) are needed to win the nomination.

UPDATE 2:00
States are still ‘caucusing’, i.e. chatting away having a good time. There’s a giddy excitement in the theatre. The big question seems to be if McKinney will win on the first round of balloting or not.

  1. Interesting that CSPAN does NOT have the Green convention on now. They have NGA National Governors Assoc. centennial live from Philadelphia. President Clinton quoted & referenced Teddy Roosevelt.

  2. Lisa in L.A. says:

Yes, I’ve already emailed them saying “hey, you aired the Libertarian Convention live for several hours, do the same for the Green Party!

  3. Cynthia And Rosa says:

When you include time-updates; Is the time concurrent with national time or Chicago time?

  4. Ronald Hardy says:

Chicago time – sorry! They are just about to start the states.

  5. Ronald Hardy says:

Word on the floor is C-SPAN is recording it for a program they will run on Sunday.
