Midnight Movie: “Animal in Man”
Hip-hop artist M1 from the group Dead Prez says, “I’ve never voted in the Presidential election; I’ve never felt strongly enough about a candidate to. Knowing that Rosa Clemente is down with Cynthia McKinney’s run, I feel that now is the greatest opportunity for the Hip-Hop community to put our collective strength and power to the test and vote for someone who represents who we are and what we stand for.”
This one goes out for Rosa Clemente, “Animal in Man” by Dead Prez.
This is a great example of Political Hip Hop, using George Orwell’s Animal Farm (and the animated feature in the video) in modern context.
By the way, I watched “Animal Farm” (not this video) with my 6 year old daughter and found it to be a wonderful source of conversation about so many things in our society today. Never overwhelm a child of 6, but animation such as this original film opens up so much interesting dialog about the world. Also, as a former scholar of Soviet history, this movie is just amazing. (The book, too…)
