FOX News: McKinney accuses US government of mass executions

In an article linked at Fox News’ front page, Cynthia McKinney is reported to have accused the government of slaughtering prisoners and dumping them during Hurricane Katrina. Taken in large part from a video posted to You Tube, the reporter goes on to point out that several mental health experts refused to say that McKinney is mentally unstable. The reporter then goes on to point to several controversies McKinney has been involved in over the past few years, and ends by pointing out that the Green Party has nominated close to 250 candidates across the nation this fall.

Thanks to Nexus for bringing this tidbit to our attention.

So what to make of this? I’m interested in people’s reactions.

  2. step aside says:

I guess we can say that the media blackout is officially over!

  3. Dave says:

    She’s a loonie.

The far left accused USAR PSYOP units of conducting campaigns against Minnesotans back in the 80’s. As a PSYOP Soldier back then, I can tell you that was b.s.

Now, you get this whacko saying Soldiers are MURDERING prisoners. I have more faith in my fellow Soldiers than that, and only the fact that she is crazy keeps me from thinking she owes us an apology.

  4. Green Ferret says:

Well, at least she knows how to get mentioned on fox “news”.
Before we rush to judgement, consider that McKinney has been hit – hard – with the conspiracy theorist smear before (when she questioned why Bush and Cheney called Tom Daschle on 9/11/01 to instruct him not to investigate that day’s events), so she probably wouldn’t say something like this in public without reasonably decent evidence. She knows how to do research. Let’s just hope she did her homework this time.

  5. Nexus says:

    Your welcome.

Congresswoman McKinney isn’t doing herself or the Greens any favors making statements like these. Do you really want the only MSM attention you get to be coverage of a wild accusation? I’ll be interested to see how the GP reacts to this.

  6. Ronald Hardy says:

Here is what I would find embarrassing:

If my candidate supported clean coal and nuclear power as energy solutions – THAT would be embarrassing.

If my candidate supported a troop surge in Afghanistan, and at least 16 more months (if not longer) of occupation and war in Iraq – THAT would be grounds for dismissal.

If my candidate didn’t support universal health care, didn’t support gay marriage, didn’t oppose the wall street giveaway, that would concern me greatly.

So in perspective, this doesn’t really bother me that much at all. On EVERY MAJOR ISSUE GREENS CARE ABOUT, Obama & McCain are wrong, McKinney is RIGHT.

  7. Ronald Hardy says:

The campaign will be issuing a statement soon regarding this story.

There IS more to this story than pure speculation, apparently.

  8. Nexus says:

Ronald, Ralph Nader is right in line with everything you just said but without the wild accusations. Why would you support McKinney over Nader?

If there is any evidence to back this wild claim then lets see it. Let’s find this mass grave. The shit storm this would cause would be beyond belief. McKinney’s face would be on every front page in the world. It certainly wouldn’t hurt her poll numbers any.

  9. Ronald Hardy says:

Ralph Nader is my second choice, if there were ranked choice voting. Nader is on target with my issues as well as McKinney.

One reason I support McKinney over Nader is that there are 245 Green Party candidates running along with McKinney, running to build a movement under the banner of the Green Party. America NEEDS a strong Green Party to challenge the corporate-political establishment, not just at the Presidential level but at the Congressional level, State level, City and County level.

I wanted Nader to run with the Greens, I wanted Nader and McKinney to run together on the same ticket. Wouldn’t that have been great?

  10. Nexus says:

Good luck with the party building, but I wouldn’t expect to make very much headway making wild accusations. All that will do is get you even more marginalized.
From what I’ve heard, Nader is in favor of party building, just not Green Party building. I understand he’ll be helping the Peace and Freedom Party go national.

  11. Bo says:

Well, McKinney’s still a lot less of a liar and a lot saner than Biden, McCain, Palin, and Obama but this is definitely troubling.

  12. Colin Young says:

    Nexus,

Nader made all kinds of noises about building the Green Party after 2000 and again in 2004 – and nothing came of it. He is apparently less interested in local candidates than his national issues, which is why we all support McKinney and not Nader.

This latest accusation is definitely troubling, tho. I’d like to hear more before passing judgement.

  13. Colin Young says:

P.S. at least she doesn’t believe that dinosaurs and humans coexisted 6,000 years ago.

  14. breaks5 says:

With all due respect Nexus, why are you making this an either/or issue when both campaigns are emphatically on the record that we aren’t competing with one another? We’ve both signed the Ron Paul (now there’s someone I can’t believe I’m invoking!) statement of principles for “viable” third parties. Clemente and Gonzalez just appeared together on Democracy Now decrying the same issues the other day, right after the VP debate. And the Nader campaign have invited our candidates to speak and participate at their own events, while Cindy Sheehan (while endorsing Cynthia) has invited both as well. Do you have a point beyond the assertion that YOU think Cynthia is nuts, based on something FOXNEWS says? If so, please share.

  15. Bryan says:

I can’t call her insane, but foxnews reported on video that didn’t appear to be spliced or altered, and was long enough so that it can’t be said to have been taken out of context.

If there is more to the story, as Ronald has suggested, then it would probably be a good idea for the info to hit the press, otherwise, it gives anyone who cares the ultimate smear material.

Speaking as someone on the Green down ticket, unless this can be proven to have some kind of factual base, it is NOT helping grow the Party! For that matter, rather than holding up the prez ticket to give credibility to the party, I am trying to mention it as little as possible. Luckily most people don’t know who McKinney/Clemente are, and believe that Nader is running as the Green candidate.
