The first ad is more effective than the 2nd. Not because it uses the clintons and biden, nor because it’s negative per se. It’s just better focused on the flaws in Obama’s “qualifications”/background/policies. The problem of course is it’s too long. You need to get the message out in 30 seconds basically. And it’d help if it ended by giving a tangible reason to vote for Cynthia, like her 12 years in the house, her record and her platform. I can’t think of better reasons to vote for anyone.
The second ad is even less effective than the first, even though it’s shorter. The first minute does lay out the case, but it’s still too long and Cynthia has one good one-liner in the last third of it.
The model I suggest people use is along the lines of the anti-war gas pump ad from the kucinich campaign which one can find on YT. That’s the hardest hitting ad I’ve seen this year and makes the point potently, ending with a vote kucinich line. There’s another one minute dazzling one on YT that has a black background, racing electronic music and highlights all the key platform planks dennis stands for. Cynthia has some great political hip hop ads that get the point out effectively, also on YT. I just don’t think these measure up.
Yup, I didn’t like them.
A few years ago I saw some really nice “fake” ads that students at UW Green Bay made for a “fake” green party candidate as part of a class assignment. They were much better than this.
The “pretend” candidate is Lillie Paddie, running ffor a suburban/rural state assembly district in Wisconsin.
Ah – finally found them:
This one was my favorite:

This one was okay:

They also produced campaign lit, a website, and more. They did a good job – probably because they actually contacted the Wisconsin Green Party and several of us sent them a bunch of information about how we would run a campaign, finances, etc.
My 2 cents.
It was okay for a college poly sci class effort. An actual ad, of course, would need to be much “punchier”, get right to its point, and ideally would focus on both parties, articulate their failures in office, and outline the Green alternative. Boom, boom, boom.
