Greens Mobilize for Malik Rahim for Congress

November 9th, 2008 by Ronald Hardy · 19 Comments

Louisiana turned out one of the better showings for Cynthia McKinney on November 4, which may have been due to her embracing of the Reconstruction Platform and strong post-Katrina positions.

Malik Rahim is the living embodiment for post-Katrina reconstruction. In the days following Hurricane Katrina he founded the Common Ground Collective, a grassroots organization dedicated to bringing food, medicine and services to the people of New Orleans, supported by a grassroots network of donations and support. Malik Rahim was born and raised in New Orleans, and is dedicated to the people of New Orleans, including the hundreds of thousands of refugees who left the city and have yet to return.

Because of this year’s hurricanes, the election for U.S. Congress in the second district was postponed to December 6. Malik Rahim, the Green Party candidate, faces off against incumbent Democrat Bill Jefferson, who has been indicted on 16 counts of corruption. Also running are Joseph Cao, Republican, and Gregory Kahn, Libertarian.
Malik Rahim
This is the kind of race that Greens across the nation can get behind. It is local, it is about social and economic justice, it is about grassroots activism and about electing a representative to Congress that would truly represent and fight for his constituents.

If you are disappointed with the results of the Presidential campaign, put some energy and love into the Malik Rahim campaign for Congress. Greens across the nation are already donating and supporting this December 6 race. Please contribute and spread the word.

Mobilize is the right word to use for Malik Rahim’s campaign - we are sending volunteers, money and anything else we can to spread the word about this amazing Green leader. Join our ongoing discussion about how to help Malik win at http://network.greenchange.org/groups/malikrahim

Best of success. This race is almost as important as the Sheehan race against Polosi or the one that was run by some other third parties against Charlie Rangel here in NY. Rahim would be a great congressman.

Does anyone have video of Malik’s speech at the Green Party National Convention in Chicago? If you have it or know someone who does, please post it to http://network.greenchange.org/groups/malikrahim

How could voters ever elect a man with 90,000 $ in bribe money stuffed in freezer.

    Talk about frozen assets!

everyone send emails out to everyone you know about Malik.
    That’s what I did.

if anyone finds some video footage of malik speaking and people speaking about him i can start working on some youtube campaign videos. if we could get cynthia and rosa supporting him that would really help as well, we have to move fast on this stuff. or if we could get the green candidates who won offices on Nov 4th to record a video statement in support of him, talking about this victories and the time to build, that would also look good. Who has the best connections to these new elected greens and to cynthia and rosa?

by the way. Malik’s site is really good, i would love to see a GP.org site similar to it, or to make GPW have similar navigation.

Paulie, can you post the video of Malik’s speech at the Green National Convention on youtube? It would really help us to use this great speech to get Malik elected.

I don’t know how to post it to youtube, but it’s in a different video format at the link. If I find a youtube version, I’ll link it.

Rosa and Cynthia didn’t endose any local Greens as far as I know. Sadly I doubt they will help Malik.

AWESOME web site he has. Every cent we can get donated will help.

That would be a shame. I had a similar complaint about the Libertarian ticket this year as well.

I have David Cobb’s and Pat LaMarche’s contact info, if that’s of any use.

There’s a small chance I can come down to New Orleans and help in some way (if I don’t get paying work before then), but I can’t spend any money - if the costs are covered, I might could do something.

Cynthia and Rosa campaigned with local candidates. I don’t have time to look up the “evidence” right now but I recall reading of a number of events they did with local candidates.

Also, see Cynthia’s recent (today) call for help for Malik Rahim….

Its not a shame because its not true. When Cynthia visited Detroit, she appeared with and endorsed all the Green Party candidates on the ballot. I’m sure she and Rosa did this wherever they appeared. Didn’t they visit Colorado, Claire?
