Hits through the roof
Ronald Kane Hardy, founder of Green Party Watch, was told by our hosting company that the site has gotten a sudden burst of hits, leading to the site being intermittently unavailable. They inform us that the site hosting has been transferred to another hosting machine to deal with the new traffic. That does not come without a cost.
For the first time since Green Party Watch was established over a year ago we are considering turning to you, our readers, for help. No decisions have been made about how to do this, and we don’t anticipate a huge need, but it is not fair to have Ron carry this burden alone. We hope that, if we can figure out how to do so, many of you will offer small donations to defray the costs of keeping GPW available as your best source for Green Party news and views.

Basically due to proliferation of the story via a GPUS release and a dozen websites we got hit with about 1,000 hits in one hour which prompted our host to take action.
We’ve had over 3,000 hits today, breaking our records (which was either the Green Prez Nominating Convention or the Canadian elections, it was close).
So this is good, right???
We will be pricing the private server service based on traffic over the next four or five days to see what route to take. But really we should start to consider the benefits of a “bank” account (i.e. community credit union) and means to both sell stuff here, offer advertising, and maybe even raise money for candidates or ballot access drives!
In terms of money, this is what this website has cost us: $40 domain names; $240 two years of web hosting; Not a huge deal, and big time kudos to DreamHost who are awesome to work with! If we have to start paying for extra band width that is a good thing since we would have lots of traffic reading the good work of the Green Party, but yeah, we’d have to pay extra monthly to handle it.
Anyway – more than anyone wants to hear. We’ll keep people posted.

It would be good when folks visit Green Party Watch the immediately learn about all the outstanding Green Party candidates running for local, state, and federal office right now.
