Rich Whitney To Announce 2010 Intentions

Rich Whitney, whose 2010 campaign for Governor of Illinois earned over 361,000 votes for over 10% of the total, has scheduled three press conferences this Wednesday and Thursday to announce his intentions for 2010. The Illinois Green Party is meeting this coming weekend in Champaign-Urbana and potential candidates are expected to speak to participants.

Whitney’s 2006 campaign began by collecting 39,000 signatures in 90 days, which were challenged by the Democrats who even challenged Whitney’s own signature. They survived the challenge, and the 10% finish made the Illinois Green Party an “established political party” per state law, putting them (theoretically) on equal footing with the Illinois Republicans and Democrats.

The press conferences schedule:

WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 2009

Chicago – 10:30 a.m.
Hilton Garden Inn – Ballroom
10 E. Grand Ave (at State)

Springfield – 3:30 p.m.
Blue Room (press room)
Illinois State Capitol

THURSDAY, JULY 16, 2009

Carbondale – 1:30 p.m.
Carbondale Civic Center
200 South Illinois Avenue

  1. Hopefully he plans to run another successful campaign.

  2. Ronald Hardy says:

I think that this campaign has a LOT of potential. Illinois politics is nasty and corrupt, and voters obviously (based on his 10% in 2006) are open to an alternative.
