Michael McCue, Los Angeles Green and elected member of the Studio City Neighborhood Council, is running for the District 2 seat of the Los Angeles City Council in an upcoming special election. 10 candidates are vying for the seat, which will go to a runoff if no one receives more than 50% of the vote on Sept. 22. McCue, who serves on the environmental affairs and governmental affairs committees of his Neighborhood Council, is the only Green currently running in Democratic machine-dominated Los Angeles.
In a video statement, Michael McCue says “I know from speaking with thousands of you that Valley residents have had it up to here with the continuing culture of corruption at City Hall… Right now, the voters are frustrated. They know that we can’t keep sending the mayor’s friends, the machine politicians, to City Hall and then expect them to behave differently… Vote Green, not machine!”
Michael McCue has experience in grassroots organizing and in serving on a local government body that functions much like the city council. In his coverage of the 10-way debates, blogger Phil Jennerjahn of Mayor Sam’s Sister City has had this to say about McCue:
Michael McCue was the surprise of the evening. He had a large number of good, solid answers. In fact, he sounded like the only candidate who had predicted the questions and knew his answers ahead of time… Good forum. I thought that McCue was the winner here tonight.
Several close observers credited Michael McCue, a Studio City Neighborhood Council member, with being the most impressive.
Michael McCue was again the most powerful, and most dramatic, speaker of the evening.
Michael McCue is running a spirited grassroots campaign in an area with great potential for future Green success. Donate to his campaign today and help us elect the first Green to Los Angeles City Council!
