San Francisco Green Party Office Closes

The SF Green Party’s office will be closing because the local party cannot afford the monthly rent with the ailing economy the way it is. Greens held a last hurrah party at the office recently and local Green city Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi was on hand to lift the spirit of the crowd:

Some of the party’s best work, he said, came before it even had an office. This was a volunteer-driven party, he continued, and they were doing their damnedest to “compete with the big boys” and their “unchecked power” and money. Certainly that wouldn’t change in the future, Mirkarimi noted.

  1. Sigh

Oh well. Quick blame Ralph Nader.

    It is his fault.

Can’t say that some of us did not try to warn you all.

  2. Dave Schwab says:

“Blame Ralph Nader”? You must have blanked and thought you were at Daily Kos.

  3. Dave

    LOLOL

Nope. Daily KOS and Op Ed News will not even let me post there anymore.

Because I hold the Democrats accountable.
    They don’t like that.

My comment is obviously parody and a wee bit of sarcasm.

It’s a little sad, but we’re really trying to get the point across that the decision’s positive side involved a healthy amount of fiscal conservatism that should really be more common in Green spending habits.

We were collecting and spending the hard-earned money of cash-strapped Greens to pay rent on an office that was needed twice a month for meetings, and once every couple years for campaigns. Now we will be mobile, renting community spaces for a tenth of the cost in a different part of the city every month – bringing in new faces, and freed from the time-consuming need to constantly fundraise to scrape together the rent, so we can focus on what we’re supposed to be doing, educating voters and lobbying local government.

We’re hopeful and excited to see how it works, and will rent a better office one day when the money and need are there.
