San Francisco Green Party endorses the campaign to repeal Prop 8 this year
From the San Francisco LGBT issues Examiner:
The Green Party of San Francisco has officially endorsed Restore Equality 2010 (RE 2010), the campaign to repeal Proposition 8. On February 24th, the SF Green Party held their monthly meeting at the San Francisco LGBT Center where they were joined by three of the Regional Representatives for RE 2010. Together, they discussed the signature gathering effort to get marriage equality back on the ballot in November.
“The Green Party is proud to distinguish itself as the Party which has always and unequivocally supported full equality for the LGBT community,” said Paul Platt, SF Green Party County Council member. “In keeping with this tradition, we enthusiastically endorse, and commit to working on the campaign to repeal Prop 8 and restore equality this November.”
California is a stronghold for the Green Party, and they are very active in San Francisco. There is a Green on the Board of Supervisors (Ross Mirkirimi), two Greens on the Board of Education (Mark Sanchez and Jane Kim), a Green on the College Board (John Rizzo), a Green Planning Commissioner (Christina Olague), and a Green Ethics Commissioner (Joe Lynn).
The Green Party’s grassroots values have existed since the party was formed, and those values compliment the grassroots campaign to restore marriage equality. RE 2010, is excited to have the support of the SF Green Party (in addition to the San Diego Green Party who endorsed the campaign last December), and appreciates their continuous support of the LGBT community.
The San Francisco Green Party is part of the Green Party of California, and is one of the largest and strongest local Green groups in the US. For more information on the SF Green Party, visit their website at www.sfgreenparty.org.
Restore Equality 2010 is a grassroots campaign dedicated to passing a constitutional amendment in 2010 that guarantees marriage equality for all Californians. For more information on the campaign to repeal Prop 8, go to www.RestoreEquality2010.com.
