Rich Whitney outlines Green economic plan for Illinois

Rich Whitney, the Illinois Green Party’s 2010 candidate for governor who earned over 10% of the vote in 2006, has released a detailed working paper with the title “How we can solve the budget crisis in Illinois and build a full employment economy with good jobs for all who need them”. By way of introduction, Whitney writes, “I do not contend that this platform is perfect. I do contend that it presents a far better alternative than anything offered by the candidates of the two corporate-sponsored parties.”

Whitney’s comprehensive economic platform is too long to reprint here, but the headings include “Fix the Structural Budget Deficit – Make our tax system more progressive and fair”, “Modernize our Energy Infrastructure”, “Modernize our transportation infrastructure”, “Improve Education and Provide Free Higher Education for All In-State Residents Who Qualify Academically”, “Single-Payer Health Care”, “Support small businesses – for real”, “Other public works”, “More, better paying social service jobs”, “Raise the minimum wage until it is a genuine living wage”, and “Make corporations accountable and encourage other forms of business ownership”.
