Rasmussen poll in Illinois excludes Rich Whitney, but third parties still poll well

From Ross Levin at Independent Political Report:

Even though Green Party candidate for governor Rich Whitney got over 10 percent of the vote in the 2006 gubernatorial race, for some reason Rasmussen has left him – and other third party candidates – out of a recently released poll.  Still, without any third party candidate mentioned by name, the “other” category was chosen by six percent of voters.  Neither major party candidate had an outright majority.  Rasmussen has repeatedly done the same thing in the Massachusetts gubernatorial race, as well, leaving Green-Rainbow Party candidate Jill Stein out of their polls.

  1. Dave Schwab says:

Rasmussen’s right-wing bias is clear when you consider that a Rasmussen poll asked voters whether they support a hypothetical Tea Party, yet Rasmussen polls systematically exclude candidates of the Green Party, an actual party.

Rasmussen polls are also used by the Commission on Presidential Debates, the private corporation controlled by Democratic and Republican party insiders to keep independents and third parties out of the debates. They use polls that exclude Greens to justify excluding Greens from the debates.

  2. Ross Levin says:

Email Rasmussen at info@rasmussenreports.com and tell them to stop this.

  3. d.eris says:

Hey Dave, inspired by your recent post on the third party “media blackout” I’ve actually already written up an email to send to Rasmussen, if anyone wants to cut and paste, and am trying to spread the word. Here’s the link with the text.

  4. They did the same thing in the Massachusetts when they excluded Joe Kennedy from the polls as well.

    Dear Friend,

As the leader of the United Steelworkers, a labor union that represents hundreds of thousands of manufacturing workers, I’m writing to ask you to take a simple action that will benefit the economy, the environment, and the lives of manufacturing workers across the country.

    Email your Senators TODAY

Help American workers and the environment. Make sure the Kerry/Graham/Lieberman clean energy and climate bill supports domestic clean energy manufacturing.

Click Here to Email Your Senators

The United Steelworkers has a long history of promoting measures that improve the health and well-being not only of our members, but also of communities facing environmental hazards. We were early supporters of climate and clean energy measures because we knew it was the right thing to do for the planet, and that American workers would benefit if the U.S. became a leading producer of clean energy products like wind turbines, solar panels and electric car batteries.

But we’ve been alarmed to see that the clean energy manufacturing jobs we’ve been fighting for are going overseas. According to an analysis by the Apollo Alliance, on whose board I proudly serve, 70 percent of America’s clean energy systems and component parts are manufactured abroad.

We need to reverse this trend and ensure that policies that grow our clean energy economy also create good, high-quality manufacturing jobs here in the United States.

Please email your Senators and ask them to include Senator Sherrod Brown’s Investments for Manufacturing Progress and Clean Technologies (IMPACT) Act in their soon-to-be-introduced bipartisan climate bill.

This bill has the potential to win approval in the Senate, but it needs to include measures that grow America’s clean energy businesses and workforce. That’s what the IMPACT Act will do.

IMPACT will authorize $30 billion to establish state-level revolving loan funds to help small and medium-sized manufacturers retrain workers and retool facilities for clean energy production. It will also expand funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership program to help manufacturers access clean energy supply chains.

More than two million manufacturing workers have seen their jobs eliminated in the current recession. These were high-quality jobs, with family-supporting wages and benefits.
Let’s help these workers by creating a clean energy manufacturing boom in the United States. And while we’re at it, let’s help end U.S. dependence on foreign oil and reduce dangerous greenhouse gas emissions.

Thanks for taking action today-and for your support of American workers and our environment!

    Sincerely,
    Leo Gerard

Thanks Ross, d.eris and TPR. Let’s keep gathering information about Rasmussen’s biased polling and thinking of ways to take action.
