Giordano works as an organizer for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 142. According to his campaign, in his first year with the local he won an award for organizing in his region.

Giordano feels as a third generation of family from the neighborhood that he has a vested interest in the neighborhood and district he wants to represent. Giordano credits his mother for his strong work ethic.

“Taking the easy way out is not the best way to do things,,” said Giordano. “My mother worked two jobs. Seeing my mother struggle to just put food on the table and keep the bills from piling up really made me appreciate her not only as a mother, but as a woman.”

Hugh’s mother had to work two jobs to take care of the family as a bank teller and a cashier at a supermarket.

“I couldn’t do it, I still don’t know how she does it,” said Giordano.

Giordano is keenly aware the problems many working class families have to face daily. “There is no middle class but the working poor living from paycheck to paycheck,” said Giordano. “One of the things I want to do is up the minimum wage, because whether you’re a janitor or not. You deserve a good wage, a living wage.”

Giordano would like to change labor laws that would hold CEOs and Trustees accountable for objectionable actions made by middle management, especially their reaction to union organization.
