H/T to Ross Levin.
Hugh Giordano grew up in the Roxborough area of Philadelphia and has lived there all his life. He attended Levering Elementary School and Saul High School, both Philadelphia public schools. Hugh then went on to get his undergraduate degree in Business at Philadelphia University and his Masters in Legal and Ethical Studies from the University of Baltimore.
Hugh became heavily active in the labor movement as a teenager when he attempted to organize the dining hall at Philadelphia University. He found out through this experience that he wanted to fight for working people everyday. Hugh is currently employed as Union Organizer for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 152. In his first year with the local he won an award for organizing in his region.
Hugh’s leadership and honesty has been vital in organizing workers because he knows what its like to come from a working class family. Hugh’s mother had to work two jobs to take care of the family as a bank teller and a cashier at a supermarket. “Seeing my mother struggle to just put food on the table and keep the bills from piling up really made me appreciate her not only as a mother, but as a woman,” said Giordano. Working as a union organizer allowed Hugh to see that economic insecurity is problem for many working families, and has pledged his life work to helping those left behind in the most prosperous country in the world.
