Rich Whitney to travel Illinois by bike and train

Rich Whitney, Illinois Green Party candidate for governor, will travel across Illinois by bike and train in a “Sustainable Transportation Tour” from Thursday 20 May to Friday 28 May. Details and schedule below:

Sustainable Transportation Tour

Green Party candidate Rich Whitney will be traveling across the state by bike and train. He’ll be joined at points by local candidates and other Green supporters. (pre-tour) May 19th: Rich will join the Chicago Ride of Silence at 6:30 pm, Daley Plaza.

DAY ONE: Thursday, May 20th
10:30 am Press Conference at James R.Thompson Center at 100 West Randolph Street, Chicago opposing eminent domain at Peotone prior to FAA approval/disapproval of an airport. STAND (Shut This Airport Nightmare Down) is organizing the press conference and demonstration. Featured speakers are Rich Whitney, Green Party candidate for governor; Brian Cann, Will Township Supervisor; Jim Tobin, President of National Taxpayers United of Illinois and George Oschenfeld, Green Party candidate for State Representative, 79th district.

1:00 pm Press Conference / SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION TOUR LAUNCH
Logan Square campaign office @ 3044 W. Fullerton Avenue.
Mr Whitney will be joined by several supporters, including Jeremy Karpen, Green Party candidate for State Representative, District 39 and Jack Ailey, Green Party candidate for Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

1:20-2:40 Mr Whitney and supporters will cycle approximately 9.7 miles around District 39, stopping at Boulevard Bikes @ 2535 North Kedzie Boulevard as well as several other local businesses before finishing at the Jefferson Park Metra Station, 4917 N. Milwaukee

2:48-3:16 pm Mr Whitney and supporters will take the Metra to Arlington Heights Metra Station
3:30-5:00 pm Mr Whitney and supporters will cycle to Barrington via Palatine; approximately 12.2 miles.
5:00-6:00 pm Mr Whitney will be available for one-on-one interviews in Barrington
6:00-7:00 pm Meet-and-Greet at Cook Street Coffee, 100 East Station Road, Barrington
7:30-9:00 pm House Party at 12 Arbor Court,  Buffalo Grove. Suggested donation $20 but no one turned away. RSVP appreciated but not required.

DAY TWO: Friday, May 21st
9:05 am Press Conference at 90 Church Street, Woodstock Metra Station
Mr. Whitney will arrive at the Woodstock Metra Station at 9:01 am on the Union Pacific / Northwest Line via Arlington Heights. He will be joined by Green Party candidates Scott Summers for State Treasurer; Bill Scheurer for Congress, District 8; Frank Wedig for County Board and Gus Philpott for McHenry County Sheriff. They will hold a 15-minute press conference before cycling to their next stop 3.7 miles away.

9:45 – 11:00 am Tour of Other World Computing (OWC)
2650 Bridge Ln, Woodstock, IL 60098

Mr Whitney, Mr Summers and Mr Scheurer will be led on a tour of OWC’s Platinum LEED Certified facility by CEO Larry O’Connor. OWC is the first technology manufacturer/distributor in the U.S. to become 100% on-site wind powered by switching its daily operations energy needs over to a Vestas V39-500 kW wind turbine.
3:00 pm Press Conference in Rockford, near the Auburn Street Bridge and Symbol
Mr Whitney, Green Party candidates David Black for Attorney General and Scott Summers for State Treasurer and other cyclists will arrive at the Symbol Sculpture near the Auburn Street Bridge at 3:00 pm as they near the end of their journey from Woodstock, via the Long Prairie Trail and surface roads.
7:00 pm Evening House Party in Rockford. 1117 Parkview (across from the Sinnissippi Golf Course). Suggested donation $20 but no one turned away.

DAY 3: Saturday, May 22
9:00 am Breakfast at Stockholm Inn, 2420 Charles, Rockford
10:30 am Ride to Sycamore; approximately 33 miles.
1:30-2:30 pm Lunch in Sycamore; exact location tbd
2:30-5:00 pm Cycle the Great Western Trail to South Elgin; approximately 25 miles. Mr. Whitney will be joined by Dan Kairas, Green Party congressional candidate, 14th district 1:30 pm Ride to South Elgin; join Dan Kairas, congressional candidate, 14th district
6:00 pm Evening fundraiser at Booker’s Pub & Grill @ 420 N. McLean, South Elgin. $15 includes one free drink plus appetizers!

DAY 4: Sunday, May 23rd
9:00 am – 9:30 am Mr Whitney will be joined by supporters for coffee in St. Charles (on Rt. 64 next to the Arcadia Theater)
9:30 am – 9:45 am Mr Whitney will cycle 2.5 miles to Geneva along the Fox River Trail (Algonquin to Aurora)
9:45 am – 11:30 am Mr Whitney and supporters will visit the French Market in Geneva, IL
11:30am – 12:15 pm Mr Whitney will be available for one-on-one interviews at Caribou Coffee, 507 South 3rd Street, Geneva
12:20 pm -12:50 pm Meet and greet fellow public transit passengers
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Mr Whitney and supporters will cycle approximately 10.2 miles to Aurora along the Fox River Trail (Algonquin to Aurora)
2:00 – 4:00 pm Mr Whitney and supporters will distribute flyers around Aurora, including the Paramount and Il Guero Food Market.
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Mr Whitney and supporters will cycle to Warrenville from Aurora; approximately 12 miles on the Fox River Trail and Illinois Prairie Path
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm House Party at the home of DuPage County Green Party Chair Steve Alesch, 27 W 554 Warrenville Road, Warrenville. Unlike his opponents, Mr. Whitney will not accept any corporate campaign contributions, so he relies on contributions from individuals. Suggested donation $10 but no one turned away.

DAY 5: Monday, May 24th
9:00am: Press Conference at Naperville Metra Station, 105 E. 4th Avenue, Naperville
9:33 am: Mr Whitney to take Burlington Nothern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway line to Downers Grove Main Street station, arriving 9:45 am.
10:00 am – 11:00 am: Meet & Greet at Caribou Coffee, 5100 Main Street, across from the Main Street Downers Grove Metra. Rich Whitney will be joined by Green Party State Rep candidate Bob Mueller, 47th District
11:00 am – 1:00 pm: Mr. Whitney and supporters will cycle to Joliet, approximately 23.5 miles. Mr Whitney will ride part of the way on the Centennial Trail.
1:00 – 2:00 pm Lunch and Tour of the First LEED certified Denny’s restaurant, 2531 Plainfield Road, Joliet
2:00 – 2:30 pm Mr. Whitney and supporters cycle 5.6 miles to downtown Joliet.
3:00 – 5:00 pm Mr Whitney available for one-on-one meetings or interviews

    Across the big pond tonight….Berlin Germany is a “city/state”. One of Germany’s 16 states.

    The Green Party is at record popularity….polling 23% tonight. Berlin is have mayor’s election in 2011… Renate Kuenast of the Greens is the odds on favorit…
