Jesse Johnson is the West Virginia Mountain Party candidate for US Senate.

He needs to raise $1,740 by Friday to cover the filing fee to get on the ballot and he needs your help.

    Jesse Johnson could be a strong candidate in an unpredictable senate race. He got 4.5% running against Manchin for governor in ’08. I think he could do better this time since it’s a good year to be running as an outsider and a real environmentalist.

    Jesse is a better candidate every year. And this isnt the first time he’s run for this senate seat. He ran in 2006 for it.

    A lot of people here in WV have a bad taste in their mouth. Manchin has already been criticized for being more occupied with political maneuvering so he could run in this race, than actually doing his job. He pushed a special session on the legislature to approve this election measure, essentially so he could run for it. His choice to fill the position in the mean time has made it abundantly clear where his relationship with the vested coal interests lie. It’s a preview of what Manchin will be like. It sounds like Manchin may have some anti-Mountain Top Removal challengers in the primary in August though. Jesse will likely be able to pull any supporters from that campaign if Manchin is able to muster the nomination.

    Jesse is also currently running for WV House of Delegates-32. He’ll be running both campaigns. The election law was recently amended in WV to allow for this when there are special elections, pretty much as a way for republicans to be able to field Capito for both House and Senate, but it sounds like she isn’t going to run for senate.

    I had just emailed Jesse to urge him to run….then came to Green Party Watch to find out …Green Party hillbillies…whether from Kentucky, West Virginia, or Virginia…are on the same track..

    Anybody know how we get the money to Jesse before close of business tomorrow…
