Rich Whitney Asks For Funds to Open Up Chicago Office
August 12, 2010 in General
The Rich Whitney for Illinois Governor campaign is asking supporters to make a donation so that they can open up an office on the South Side of Chicago in Bronzeville. See message below:
Full Disclosure: I am a volunteer on Rich’s campaign.
Dear friends and supporters,
Currently Rich Whitney has very little name recognition on Chicago’s South Side. The reason is fairly obvious: neither the Whitney for Governor campaign nor the young Illinois Green Party has had much of a presence on the South Side.
The Whitney for Governor Campaign wants to change this reality by OPENING A SOUTH SIDE CAMPAIGN OFFICE IN CHICAGO’S HISTORIC BRONZEVILLE NEIGHBORHOOD, out of which the campaign can base its South Side organizing efforts.
To pay for this office, a South Side organizer’s stipend, and for miscellaneous office expenses, the campaign needs a total of $4,500.00. Right now the campaign has $1,800.00 set aside to use for these expenses. But we still need to raise the rest of the needed funds — $2,700.00 — from our supporters.
PLEASE HELP US MEET OUR GOAL OF RAISING $2,700, BY MAKING A DONATION TODAY, AT: http://www.facebook.com/l/593cfTVrBiclxtbo7zD3CyBMXqg;tinyurl.com/27waurs
With great appreciation,
The Whitney for Governor Team

Green Party’s Rich Whitney continues to teach the rest of us how it’s done.
Jeremiah Heaton, our endorsee, in Virginia’s 9th (that’s mountain country near the borders of North Carolina and Tennessee) has launched a new TV commercial against special interest money in politics.
Jeremiah is a U.S. Army veteran, husband, father, and successful small businessman, and farmer. Jeremiah has also worked in the mines. He lauched his congressional campaign last year in a unique way: with a speech in the middle eastern country, United Arab Emirates. Jeremiah called for bringing the American troops home from both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jeremiah was elected to the local county board of supervisors at 28 years old. He owns, and with his wife and daughters, operates an old style general store with a modern studio, and dance hall. They play blue grass music every Saturday night. The place is packed with people. It’s broadcast live on the radio with different acts every week.
Here’s his campaign commercial on youtube. You can also watch is campaign announcement there.

Thanks for the post. I thought there was already a Chicago office for all of the IL Green candidates.

I think this is specifically for a South Side Office. I think the “south side” of Chicago is practically a city in and of itself.

Yes, you are correct Ron. Currently there is an office on the northside of Chicago and we’re planning to open up another office on the south side.
There are also satellite offices run by other campaigns in Oak Park and Dolton I believe too.

On similar note, does the Whitney campaign have an plans or ideas on how they can raise more money? I know that his fundraising is well of ahead of where he was 4 years ago, but he is still far far back of the two leading candidates, and Brady is creeping close to 50% in the most recent poll. Are there any plans to have media presence, in terms of commericals, ect, leading into the general election?

@Chicago Voter – We are increasing our fund raising efforts and are always looking for fundraisers. Contact campaignmanager@whitneyforgov.org if interested or you know someone interested. The good about having offices is actually directing volunteers and staff to work there and make phonebanking calls and the like.
Don’t quote me on this, but I think Whitney said somewhere in an interview that we plan to have some targeted media buys.
