Is LeAlan Jones Going to be Shut Out of Debates?

This blog post blasts Kirk for shutting Jones out of the Illinois Debates.

But what of Democrat Giannoulias?

(ht: DK)

  1. I hope not. All candidates that are on the ballot, should be part of any forum!! I was shut out of my first debate this year. The next organization was open to all candidates and partys, so I got lucky. I think the Green Party should sponsored forum in states with green candidates running that are on the ballot. Get a network reporter to moderator it. Have the reporter pick the first 5 questions to open the forum with 1 from the green party. 1 from democrats party, and 1 from republican party and the reporter picks 2 qusetions he can ask. Those who attend can ask question also, Are sponsored will be Nonprofit the Green Party and other organization we work with in those state.

I have contacted the League of Woman Voters. Jan Czarnik said that the threshold for debates is 10%. I reminded her that LeAlan is polling over 10%.

  3. Chicago Voter says:

What poll are they using? Some polls dont include him and some show him at less than 10%, so if they only a certain poll he may not be registering at 10%. Not extactly fair but it might well be what they do.

  4. Dominik says:

    According to their Policy:

Voter Interest – The candidate must demonstrate significant voter
interest and support as evidenced by a major party nomination or receipt
of [10%] support in a nonpartisan public opinion poll conducted at least
[14] days but not more than [40] days prior to the debate. (Set a
reasonable percentage to show evidence of support, keeping in mind the
probable number of candidates. Set a cut-off date so there will be
sufficient time to make final debate plans.)

In IL the Green Party is a Major Party. And LeAlan did have 10% support in a nonpartisan election.

    This is simply an outrage.
