Howie Hawkins challenges Cuomo and Paladino to debate, plans NYC appearances

September 22, 2010 in State Wide Elections

New York Green Party gubernatorial candidate Howie Hawkins was in Buffalo on Sept. 17th to challenge Republican Carl Paladino to debate (watch video here). On Sept. 22nd Hawkins will hold a press conference in Rochester to challenge Democrat Andrew Cuomo to debate. About his opponents, Hawkins said:

A debate with just Paladino and Cuomo would just be an argument over how to cut spending, attack public employee unions, and cap property taxes. The real choice in this election is between my progressive tax reforms to fund a Green New Deal of full employment, clean energy, and fully funded schools and the conservative platforms of Paladino and Cuomo who offer variations on the same theme: a rich folks’ agenda of making working people pay for the deficit caused by tax cuts and corporate welfare for the free-loading rich.

In the following days, Hawkins will make several appearances in Poughkeepsie and New York City:

Thursday Sept. 23:

11 AM: Poughkeepsie Press Conference

6 PM: Harlem Branch Library: Black Women and Urban Youth Violence Conference

Friday Sept. 24:

4 PM: New York City – The Cherry Tree Bar with Teachers For A Just Contract

Saturday Sept. 25:

1 PM: Brooklyn Block Party with Susan Metz

Sunday Sept. 26:

10 AM: Atlantic Antic Street Fair

4-6 PM: House Party with David Pechefsky

In an email, the New York Green Party issued a call for volunteers to support Hawkins and the other NY Green candidates:

2. Please Write a Letter to the Editor

Letters to the editor are one of the most effective ways to spread the word about the Green campaign. We should have samples on our website shortly. Write about a topic such as jobs, health care, climate change – and explain the Green / Howie Hawkins platform.

3. Yard signs, Bumper Stickers and Buttons

Hawkins for Governor now has yard / window signs, bumper stickers and buttons. Contact our downstate (Michael michael [at] gpbk [dot] org) or upstate (ursula.rozum [at] gmail [dot] com) about where you can pick some up in your local community. We also will have info on the webpage shortly.

4. Volunteers are Needed

There are now less than 45 days to election day. We need to mobilize the Green movement over the next 6 weeks to make another world possible. We need donations (check the website) but we also need everyone to spread the word. Hand out flyers. Make phone calls. Contact your neighbors, friends and co-workers. Organize. Contact our downstate (Michael michael [at] gpbk [dot] org) or upstate (ursula.rozum [at] gmail [dot] com)

  1. Thanks for Howie update.

Mr. Hawkins has long been a gifted writer. His line “free loading rich” made me laugh out loud.

The Green Party’s Howie Hawkins is drawing attention here’s another TV story

  2. Just did a couple posts at Maddow Blog suggesting they have Howie on the show.

Howie’s 10 minutes of remarks, prior to taking questions, are fact filled.

Watch this press conference. Howie shows you what enormous benefit being on the ballot as a Green Party candidate teaches. Howie is now on the ballot for, I believe the 17th time.

Howie is a polished citizen candidate. Every Green should do this every election cycle. On the ballot.
