The Clements for US Senate Campaign will hold a joint press conference with the South Carolina Chapter of The Sierra Club on Thursday October 14th at 2:30pm at Clements’ state campaign headquarters at 1247 Sumter Street in Columbia. The office is located less than a block away from the SC State Supreme Court Building (on Sumter between Gervais and Lady Streets).
The news conference is to formally announce the endorsement of Clements by the national Sierra Club, one of the largest and most influential environmental organization sin the US. Representatives of the organization and Clements will answer media questions about the significance of the endorsement.
Clements has been a member of the Sierra Club for over thirty years and became a life member in 1998 and is very pleased with this endorsement, which helps boost the national significance of the campaign.
The Sierra Club, founded in 1892, is the oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization in the United States. The organizations has 1.3 million members in chapters located throughout the US, and is affiliated with Sierra Club Canada. The group’s mission is: “To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.”
Clements’ campaign has been bolstered in recent days as evidence by his rise in the polls. According to the latest Winthrop University poll Clements is preferred by 12 percent of voters, while Democratic Party nominee Alvin Greene is preferred by 11 percent of voters. Clements leads Greene among Democrats 30 percent to 22 percent.
