Rosanne Barr to seek Green nomination?
January 25, 2011 in Presidential Campaign
In the 2008 Presidential race, Rosanne Barr endorsed Cynthia McKinney for President. Now it would seem that Barr is interested in running for President of the Untied States, and Prime minister of Israel at the same time. Her Presidential campaign announcement, recorded near the White House, focuses on the damage patriarchy has caused and the current “system’s” total inability to fix the problems it has created. In many ways this is an echo of Sonia Johnson’s Presidential bid in 1984.
It should be noted that Ms. Barr is a comic and the title of her latest book is
- ROSEANNEARCHY: DISPATCHES FROM THE NUT FARM
She has said in recorded interviews that she wants to seek the “Green Tea Party” nomination.
Part 2 of the announcement is below the fold.

One word: NO.
The party does not need more celebrity-outsider candidates like: Nader, McKinney, or Barr. We need to nurture, train, and fund our own Green Party candidates for President – preferably drawn from Greens who already have experience in elected office.
This may not win me popularity points, but candidates like McKinney and Barr who have huge public persona’s and negative reputations (rightly or wrongly earned) already give our party a black eye when it comes to attracting new members, boasting local campaigns, and fundraising.
Just Say No to celebrity-outsider candidates.
If Barr wants to tap her rich Hollywood friends for funding, that’s fine.

Besides, there is no “Green Tea Party” anyways. Reality matters, Roseanne.

Northrop,
I am not a memeber of the Green party but I agree with you I dont think that Green part would do themselves any favors by running a candidate like Rosanne Barr. If anything in a lot of the voting public mind it would just re-enforce the idea that the Green Party is not a serious party. Along with that I think your right I dont think Cynthia McKinney did much to win the Greens any wider support from the general public.

Yes, I agree. We are not a party of celebrity-kooks with a checkered past, looking to make a statement and “feel good” about themselves…on to the next bigger and better thing. If we want to be taken seriously, we have to stop supporting candidates who are more interested in political theater and making a statement and START getting candidates who make a difference everyday of their lives and live up to the green party code. And, since this is OUR party, if we don’t want to see people like Roseanne Barr run for president and let us be the laughing stock of 2012, then we need to speak up and “just say no.”

I would say she run for US senate or state governor as a Green Party member. This might perhaps sound more serious than just going straight to the top for the presidency. This will help build the Green Party while at the same time she will support the Green Party nomination for President.

Prime Minister Roseanne Barr [Green Tea] is in a voter coalition with seven candidates for US Senate in California and Hawaii, as well as two presidential candidates, one who is of Nevada.
We are the “All Party System” where every vote counts, and every resident may self categorize with any party/category they wish.
To find out more, read our announcement on 2/1/2011 in the USA Parliament’s forum:

Wow, to lump Barr in with McKinney and Nader is a less than nuanced observation. First it ignores everything Nader did to build this party ( and its deterioration since he was pushed away ) and the fact that McKinney’s ‘celebrity’ was due to here role as a US Congressperson. I’ll add that here in Detroit, the McKinney campaign did more to build the Green Party than anything since the 2000 Nader campaign.
of course, your mileage may vary.

Nader probably did the most for the party, BUT, he has never been a member of the party and has had little to do with the Greens since 2000.
McKinney, while taking principled stands on issues, has such a poisoned self image that she has little value to the party in general. I know that sounds harsh, but that’s reality. Her narrative is already cast in concrete, and the Green Party does not have the money, will, or political expertise to change that. We just need to be realistic about that. McKinney may be able to to great things for the party, just not as our marquee candidate.
We need to cultivate, support, and run home-grown Green Party candidates. It allows us to have more control over the narrative, and build the party under our own terms.

Me: Yes, good idea. And if you know any Green Party members who have time to coordinate in an All Party System as a Prime Minister elected with votes, have them contact the USA Parliament at http://www.usparliament.org. We have three levels, county, state and national.
Currently I’m working with CA state chairs of the American Independent, Constitution, and county chairs with the Libertarian Party, and we do need Green Party members who have time to look into this on national and/or state levels. The CA chair of the Peace and Freedom and the founder of the Populist Socialist are among the many participants last year. Currently, the Constitution Party is one of the more participating parties. I just received a return call from the state chair as I’m typing this note. We have seven candidates for US Senate from five parties on board for 2012.
We started a secretary working with Green and Environmentalist Party candidates in 1995 before Nader was a candidate. Nader actually gave me permission to put his name on our ballot in early 1995, before he was a candidate. Randy Toler was the prez candidate, a guy from LA who was running for mayor of Aurora IL in 1995.
Then we had 125 names for president on our ballot from 25 parties (plus independents) and the project repeats every year as a shadow government. The Environmentalist Party always elects their members this way, on three levels: county, state and national.
Right now Barr [Green Tea] is our top Green, but we do have the likes of Laura Wells and LA County Central Committee Ross Frankel, plus a local Green mayor who is in communication, among the Green Party members. But we need someone who can give more time, nobody has time to cast the executives ranked ballot to elect the Cabinet. And it’s a real cool system, that works very smoothly, dynamically and with great people too.
