Cornel West and Cynthia Mckinney for the Green Party Presidential nomination in 2012?

Cornel West: ‘We’ve got to think seriously of third-party candidates, third formations, third parties’

From Chris Hedges’ column this week at Truthdig:

“We have got to attempt to tell the truth, and that truth is painful,” [Professor Cornel West] says. “It is a truth that is against the thick lies of the mainstream. In telling that truth we become so maladjusted to the prevailing injustice that the Democratic Party, more and more, is not just milquetoast and spineless, as it was before, but thoroughly complicitous with some of the worst things in the American empire. I don’t think in good conscience I could tell anybody to vote for Obama. If it turns out in the end that we have a crypto-fascist movement and the only thing standing between us and fascism is Barack Obama, then we have to put our foot on the brake. But we’ve got to think seriously of third-party candidates, third formations, third parties.”

If anything, there is a good chance West would endorse McKinney.

  2. Endorsements are bogus. Why endorse, when you can now elect?

If you continue to embrace plurality elections, you’re going to keep getting plurality elections. Want to try pure proportional representation(PR)?

Now Cornel West is someone I’d love to see supporting the Green Party. Whether he should run for office is another thing.

  4. I say we convince the “Green Leaders” to ask West to come out in support of the Green Party. Someone in contact with Mckinney should ask her to contact West.

I think West will be a huge voice for the Green Party (especially if Cynthia is “our” nominee again). Like I’ve said, I’m going to Register Republican to vote for Ron Paul, and really, really hope that my Green brothers and sisters let Cynthia McKinney represent us once again.

My personal “goals” for 2012 will be to put Ron Paul in the White House and the First Green in Congress. I am a monthly donor to the California Green Party: http://givv.org/recipients/green-party-of-california

The most progressive move to make politically this election cycle is to Register Republican to vote Ron Paul, support the Green Party financially (allow Cynthia to be the nominee) and vote Green in the General Election (as across the board as possible, if Ron Paul in the Republican Nominee, please please, be confident enough in your beliefs to enable yourself to vote Republican when it is the “right” thing to do, without fear that you are betraying your political identity).

Either way, Consider McKinney/Hakeem for 2012. I think it is our best ticket we could put together, and I am pretty confident it would receive a West endorsement.

I’d love to see both run for Congress as Greens. Would be amazing! http://rp12gp.us

  9. Jack, that’s a good idea. We need to always have a Presidential run for the national exposure, but also need to have “famous” names run for congress.
