Jason West became one of the most popular Green Mayors several years ago when he defied state law and chose to marry dozens of gay couples from the steps of city hall under threat of arrest. As a New Paltz resident, it pisses me off that Madow and everyone in the MSM pushes the bullshit line that West’s failed reelection bid was a referendum on the gay weddings. Nothing could be further from the truth. It was a product of much more mundane matters that West’s constituents cared about but which no one outside of New Paltz paid any attention to. Many of his biggest supporters, who whole-heartedly supported the gay weddings and in many cases came on board with West BECAUSE of the weddings, turned against him over time because of his management style.

I think he’s still a registered Green but didn’t run on the Green ballot line for technical reasons – I’m not sure, though.
