Jill Stein & Rosa Clemente Speakers at Pioneer Valley Green Rainbow Convention
Presidential Candidate Jill Stein & 2008 Vice Presidential Candidate Rosa Clemente are two of the featured speakers at the Pioneer Valley Green Rainbow Party Convention this Sunday in Amherst, Massachusetts.
This Sunday, April 1st, the Pioneer Valley Green-Rainbow Party will be holding its regional convention in room 101 of the UMass Amherst Campus Center from 12:30-3:30. The convention will feature a host of speakers including, but not limited to: Jill Stein, Green Party presidential nominee; Peter Vickery, attorney, political consultant and former Governor’s Councilor for Western Massachusetts, Nat Fortune, Smith College’s Chair of Environmental Science Department and former candidate for MA State Auditor; Rosa Clemente, community organizer and former Green Party Vice Presidential Candidate and Paki Wieland, a local Green member who has just returned from Bahrain. Each speaker will be allotted fifteen minutes, followed by a 5-10 minute Q&A. There will also be a host of local Green-Rainbow Party members presenting during the open panel section.
Dr. Stein has recently been endorsed by Noam Chomsky and will be discussing, amongst various topics, her “Green New Deal” that is the cornerstone of her 2012 campaign. According to her website, Stein favors a number of financial reforms and the creation of jobs through a clean energy economy. These include breaking up banks that are “too big to fail” and ending taxpayer-funded bailouts.
Activist Paki Wieland, a Northampton local, will speak about how her activism locally and internationally models the Green Party Ten Principles through participatory action. She is locally involved on campaigns such as “Witness Bahrain,” Stop Vermont Yankee,” and the Peace and Justice Movement.
Rosa Clemente is a community organizer, journalist, Hip Hop activist and the 2008 Vice-Presidential candidate with the Green Party. She is currently pursuing a PhD degree in W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro American Studies at UMass Amherst.
Political consultant Peter Vickery served as the campaign manager for Mark Miller’s 2011 bid for State Representative. He will be focusing primarily on how, when and why Greens win elections. Locally, Peter spearheads the Beyond Coal campaign.
