Green Party Presidential Candidate Roseanne Barr is aligned with the Green Party Platform on Israel and Palestine

From the Roseanne Barr Campaign:

Achieving Peace in Israel and Palestine
Roseanne for President 2012
April 17, 2012

Roseanne’s solutions for Peace in Israel and Palestine are deeply rooted in her own spiritual traditions, common sense thinking, alignment with the Green Party platform and a sincere desire to see equitable and humane resolutions for the benefit of all the people that live in the region.

Since 1948 each American president has “guaranteed security” for Israel by giving them a blank check for American dollars and military hardware. Congressmen and Senators fall all over themselves to offer more money and weapons.

“I hold to nothing but envisioning international peace and utopia. We all have many more things in common than not. I’ve tried to get to the very bottom of the whole subject, and I say it’s the entire world’s fault, not just Israel’s and not just the Jews for allowing the terrible crimes against humanity, the ethnic cleansing that is happening in Gaza right now. No government in the Middle East is innocent. Wars make the stock market go up, so no one in America is innocent either, nor anyone anywhere where capitalism reigns.” Roseanne Barr on NoLiesRadio in 2010. See: http://noliesradio.org/archives/22098

Foreign policy, wars, cease-fires, assassinations, conflicts, bombings, peace talks, walls, settlements, land grabs, flotillas, piracy and hijackings at sea, and “which side are you on” have been discussed and debated for decades regarding peace in between Israel and Palestine. The information has been read about on the front pages of every newspaper, been rotated on every news website, and viewed on the evening news programs.

After getting the presidential nomination in 2008 the first speech Barack Obama gave was to AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) where he pledged his continued support for the apartheid regime. See: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91150432

Currently the blockade situation for the people of Gaza has become dire. The people that live there are incarcerated in an open air prison. There is little sanitation, dirty water, no safe food, no medicine, little medical care, continued attacks by land and by air, few necessary supplies being smuggled in and few people going out. These are crimes against humanity and this is apartheid.

In the most recent news, Israel has severed tied with the UN’s Human Rights Council. See: http://www.eurasiareview.com/14042012-israel-palestine-and-the-human-rights-council-oped/

Peace in Israel and Palestine will happen when there is self determination for all and a “right of return” for the Palestinians who have had their land stolen from them. When the US government stops funding the Israeli war machine, when the Wall comes down, and when the people living there organize their own discussion of how to govern themselves they will be able to work out their differences. Their land is small, the resources scarce and a one state solution, with real democracy and justice for all seems the best approach towards a true and lasting peace.

“Peace starts in the Middle East with people speaking to each other intelligently about solutions.” Roseanne Barr on the Wise Women Media Radio Show, March 2012.

Roseanne Barr: For the Youth

From the Roseanne Barr Campaign:

“As POTUS I will forgive all student loans and ALL HOMEOWNER DEBT AND ALL CREDIT CARD DEBT,” Green Party Presidential Candidate Tweeted shortly after her candidacy was announced. She would do this by ending the wars.

On April 1st, Roseanne Barr, the Green Party Candidate for President in 2012 announced via YouTube that she is “for the youth” and that she would never betray them. Roseanne is speaking out to the next generations. She has put her own children through college and was a job creator with her production company and award winning show, therefore helping others put their own kids through college. That was important to her, one of her priorities and a way for her to help others.

But that was then and this is now.

As millions of American families struggle to cope with foreclosures, loss of jobs, medical costs and other economic calamities, school loans are rising at twice the rate of inflation and this system encourages widespread borrowing — often with little regard to a student’s credit or ability to pay. This leaves the average college graduate with tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt. Anyone attending college right now can count on spending anywhere from $80,000 to $100,000 and even more in order to achieve a 4 year degree.

Roseanne Barr at the Rally in the Valley

Roseanne Barr was the headliner at the San Fernando Valley Green Party’s “Rally in the Valley” on Friday night. While Barr has been skyping into state Green Party meetings from Virginia to Wisconsin, Friday night was her first live campaign appearance as a Green Party candidate for President. An enthusiastic crowd welcomed the former stand-up comic who seemed comfortable and even happy to take the mike and address a crowd.

A video of her full, 27 minute speech is below, but before Roseanne was a handful of area Green candidates and speakers. From the Studio City Patch:

The night was kicked off by Derek Iverson, who is also a writer for the animated show “SpongeBob Square Pants.” He said he and his wife share one car, and he rides the bus a lot and was inspired to become a Green Party member by Ralph Nader in the 2000 election.

Local activist and Patch blogger Michael McCue, who writes the “Becoming an Engaged Citizen” blog, said he was an Al Gore Democrat who became Green after reading the 10 Key Values of the party. He pointed out that three cities have a majority Green representation and more than 40 offices statewide are held by the Green Party.

Marcy Winograd, a former Congressional candidate from Santa Monica, said she became Green after being raised in a liberal Democratic family.

“I’m late coming to this party,” and she said she is unhappy about the politicians wanting war.

Michael Powleson is running in the 30th Congressional district against Howard Berman and Brad Sherman. He said he went to Milliken Middle School and Grant High and said, “I am a socialist. They were the first to fight for women’s rights, fight slavery and fight against war.”

David Steinman, running for the 33rd Congressional District against Henry Waxman, wrote two books about the environment and came from being an independent voter. “I thought the Democrats were spineless and the Republicans were anti-environment.”

Anthony Vieyra, running for the 35th Congressional District, which includes East Los Angeles, talked about how he was Green from the time he was a little boy.

Spector: “Why We Need Roseanne”

Michael Spector is a former co-chair of the Green Party of New Jersey. Green Party Watch welcomes Editorials, which we will publish (if we feel like it). The views expressed are those of the author, not Green Party Watch.

WHY THE GREEN PARTY NEEDS ROSEANNE BARR

Jill Stein’s Green Party credentials are well known. She is among many progressive, intelligent people who have devoted their lives to building a true political alternative…most often without success.

Since the year 2000 the Green Party has found itself consistently in the shadow of American politics. Opportunities are lost talking to ourselves about tactics and strategy in an almost empty room, our base limited to aging, educated whites – the latest in 2008 when Cynthia McKinney garnered only 161,797 or .12% of the total vote, while the person we left behind…Ralph Nader… obtained 739,034 or .56% …third place in the Presidential popular vote

Green Party values and politics attract many Jill Steins, but there are far too few Roseanne Barrs. We need a candidate who can easily relate to young people, feminists, independents, and first time voters…someone who appeals to a broader spectrum of the disaffected then we have in the past.

We need someone who will provide a leg up in the fight against an overwhelmingly corrupt political system in a country obsessed with personality rather then ideas. On a very practical level we need an ideal combination of the two in order to overcome our lack of media access.

And that is where Roseanne comes in. Armed with boundless political savvy, plain talk and wit, she can relate to the American public. She is larger than the Green Party, and we should be happy that she is conveying our message to the American public.

The political and commercial morals of the United States are not merely food for laughter, they are an entire banquet.
