Canadian Greens break through in British Columbia

The Green Party has finally broken through at the provincial level and will form a presence in British Columbia’s new government.

Andrew Weaver won the riding of Oak Bay – Gordon Head with 3,489 votes. It marks the first time that a member of the Green Party has been elected to B.C.’s legislature.

“We didn’t split the vote, we are the vote in Oak Bay – Gordon Head,” said Weaver during his victory to a crowd of supporters Tuesday evening. Continue Reading


Vancouver Green Party wins first city council seat

Adriane Carr calls her win in the Vancouver civic election last weekend a “victory for democracy”.

On a budget of about $15,000, the Green candidate managed to secure a city council seat, narrowly beating out COPE councillor Ellen Woodsworth by 91 votes. The win marks the first city council spot for the Green party in Vancouver. Continue Reading
