You may have already heard about what will be the largest climate rally the world has ever seen, The People’s Climate March, taking place in New York City September 21st. There’s a lot more happening on and around that day. I wanted to invite you to the Climate Convergence for People, Planet and Peace over Profit, a paradigm-shifting conference, skill-share and festival starting Friday, September 19th, that the GreenShadow Cabinet is helping to organize. If you can come to NYC, I hope you will attend and march with us in a diverse Convergence contingent, one of the 7 recognized contingents of the People’s Climate March.
The Convergence brings us together across movements and national borders to harness the transformative power we actually have once we begin to collaborate. Indeed, in this era of historic crisis – from climate meltdown to the struggles created by poverty and war – it’s more critical than ever to connect the dots across the turmoil that surrounds us and address the underlying predatory economic and political system driving all of these disasters. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Green Party leaders, candidates, elected officeholders, and activists will participate in the People’s Climate March in New York City on Sunday, September 21, (http://peoplesclimate.org) and the NYC Climate Convergence, “a weekend packed with skill-shares, teach-ins, speak-outs and protests from September 19-21 in conjunction with the People’s Climate March” (http://convergeforclimate.org).
The two events coincide with the United Nations Climate Summit in New York on September 23. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called the summit in preparation for the Paris Treaty to be negotiated in December 2015 by the Conference of the Parties (COP), which is part of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The Real News Network recently interviewed Dr. Jill Stein, 2012 Green Party presidential candidate, about the Global Climate Convergence, which brought together a diverse national coalition of movements for social, economic and environmental justice to organize over 150 actions in over 50 cities from Earth Day to May Day. In the interview, Dr. Stein discusses the problems we face, solutions we need, and plans for the Global Climate Convergence beyond Earth Day to May Day. Responding to McCutcheon, Global Climate Convergence vows to ‘Out-Organize the 1%’, Launches Video Call to Action
The Global Climate Convergence says the US Supreme Court McCutcheon v. FEC decision allowing wealthy individuals to buy even more political power is a call to action for grassroots, progressive campaigners across all movements to unite and ‘out-organize’ the corporate elite.
The group has launched Call To Action – a video manifesto calling on movements for social, economic and environmental justice to come together for People, Planet and Peace over Profit. The Convergence starts with a wave of action this spring, from Earth Day to May Day (April 22nd – May 1st).
“Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man.” -Mahatma Gandhi
While interviewing Jill Stein, Green Party Presidential Candidate in 2012, for the weekly Occupy Radio show that I co-host (listen here), it seems that she, like many of us, is frustrated by traditional politics. Our conversation revolved not around upcoming election or pieces of legislation, but around building a long overdue mass movement for Peace, People, and Planet over Profit – as the slogan for the upcoming Global Climate Convergence goes. This series of marches, demonstrations, civil disobedience and direct actions being planned for Earth Day to May Day 2014 is intended to set the ground for a global strike in 2015. The time has come to move out of traditional politicking and into the arena of concentrated, coordinated, effective nonviolent struggle. Continue Reading →

Help launch a groundbreaking action campaign that will take place this spring across the US and beyond: Earth Day to May Day, 10 Days to Change Course!
During these 10 days, communities across the globe will rally to support local fronts of struggle as we build a united front to push for Emergency Green Economic Transformation – a solution even bigger than the crisis barrelling down on us – including universal jobs, healthcare, education, food and housing security, economic and political democracy, demilitarization and an end to fossil fuel use by 2030.
Together we can harness the transformative power we already possess as a thousand separate movements sweeping the globe, rising up against the global assault on our shared economy, ecology, peace and democracy. Continue Reading →
