From an email sent out by Jill Stein for President:
URGENT! PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY!
FROM: David Swanson, Medea Benjamin, Leah Bolger, Bruce Gagnon, Chris Hedges, George Martin and Kevin Zeese
Dear Friends in the Peace Movement,
We can’t afford to let this opportunity slip by. By taking action over the next five days the peace community has a chance to inject a compelling and courageous peace advocate into the 2012 presidential campaign, to have a voice in the national debate over war, militarism, and military spending.
You know what is going to happen if we leave this election up to the two major party candidates. President Obama will defend his troop surges, his excessive Pentagon budgets, his preparations for war with Iran, his escalation of the drone wars, his crackdowns on whistleblowers, his indefinite detention policy, and his new role as manager of the White House assassination list. Mitt Romney will not question these policies, but will promise to pursue them with even more enthusiasm. In debates and interviews, the American people will have the Big Lie drilled into their consciousness: that our nation must accept escalating military engagement and must visit worldwide violence against all who defy the U.S. government. From Jill Stein for President:
Tens of thousands of Americans in over 130 cities gather today at federal courthouses and in public squares, nearly the two-year anniversary of Citizens United v. FEC, to reject the doctrines of corporate personhood and money is speech. Dr. Jill Stein, Green Party presidential candidate, is a lead speaker today in Washington, D.C., where she joins protestors on the steps of the court building of the Supreme Court of the United States. Dr. Stein joins leading members of the Move to Amend coalition, as well as Thom Hartmann, Medea Benjamin, and others in this role.
“Since 1996, the Green Party has called for a constitutional amendment to abolish the doctrine of corporate personhood,” said Stein. “Greens have been ahead of the curve, but today, the curve has caught up with us, and now this movement for a constitution that serves we, the people, has gathered a historic momentum.” Continue Reading
Gene Berkman at Independent Political Report:
Medea Benjamin was The Green Party candidate for U.S. Senator from California in 2000. Challenging Sen. Diane Feinstein’s record of support for bombing Serbia, and her earlier support for Bush Sr’s war in Iraq, Ms Benjamiin received 327,000 votes, over 3% and coming in third.
When all you have is bombs, everything starts to look like a target. And so after years of providing Libya’s dictator with the weapons he’s been using against the people, all the international community – France, Britain and the United States – has to offer the people of Libya is more bombs, this time dropped from the sky rather than delivered in a box to Muammar Gadhafi’s palace.
If the bitter lesson of Iraq and Afghanistan has taught us anything, though, it’s that wars of liberation exact a deadly toll on those they purportedly liberate – and that democracy doesn’t come on the back of a Tomahawk missile.
President Barack Obama announced his latest peace-through-bombs initiative last week — joining ongoing U.S. conflicts and proxy wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia — by declaring he could not “stand idly by when a tyrant tells his people that there will be no mercy, and … where innocent men and women face brutality and death at the hands of their own government.”

From Wisconsin Green Party candidate for 77th District State Representative Ben Manski:
What do Fire Fighters, Fred Wade, & Medea Benjamin have in common?
. . . among other things, they all support Ben Manski!
The latest endorsements are in, and Manski for Wisconsin is proud to announce that Fire Fighters Local 311 joined former Democratic State Assembly candidate Fred Wade in announcing their support for Manski’s election to the Assembly. In doing so, the fire fighters joined their sisters and brothers in Madison teachers, and Fred Wade joined fellow candidate Doug Zwank, as well as fellow leading Democrats Ed Garvey, Peg Lautenschlager, and Doug La Follette.

Did anyone notice that the 16 month “draw down” of troops in Iraq proposed by Obama includes a similar increase in troop strength in Afghanistan?
Code Pink did. Medea Benjamin as re-published by Common Dreams:
Now we have the two major presidential contenders — Barack Obama and John McCain — advocating the exact same “solution”: Send more troops. But more troops will only mean more violence, more suffering, more killing of innocents, and more recruits for the Taliban. This war will drag on and on, for there is no way to conquer tribal forces in a vast, rugged, thinly populated country like Afghanistan and the tribal areas of Pakistan. Just ask the Russians. With nearly twice as many troops as the U.S./NATO forces and with three times the number of Afghan soldiers, they left defeated after 9 years of fighting and 15,000 dead.
Waiting for the punchline… here it comes… Oh! McKinney the peace candidate, the former Congresswoman who voted against EVERY War Appropriation bill she saw and opposed both the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq while in Congress, failed to come up this time. Next one I’m sure. After all, I don’t think there is a more seasoned opponent to these wars on the ballot in any state than Cynthia McKinney, running on the Green Party ticket….
