So my name is Peter Tretter, I’m new to Green Party Watch. I’m here in Canada, involved with the Green Party of Canada and the Green Party of Ontario. I’m the President & CEO of the local electoral district riding association in Barrie, Ontario.

Some items of interest:

* Federal Leader Elizabeth May’s election office in Saanich got driven into by a truck! She is also saying that US-style attack ads hurt democracy.

* Green Party of Ontario Leader Mike Schreiner recently announced his shadow cabinet in prepation of a provincial election to occur October 6th, 2011.

* Green Party of British Columbia Leader Jane Sterk recently addressed Tofino City Council in a precedent setting move.

The St Paul Greens are running two candidates for office. Chris Chopik is running for local office while Deborah Donnelly is running for federal office.

Just in case you are from St. Paul Minnesota I suppose I should make it clear. The St. Paul Green Party I am talking about here is the Canadian chapter, in Ontario.

One thing that unites Greens from St. Paul in every nation is our Four Pillars of Ecological Wisdom, Non-Violence, Grassroots Democracy and Social Justice. Throw in a bit of fun and darn if you don’t have a real party!

The Green Party of Ontario will elect a new leader at a convention November 13-15, in London.

The Green Party of New Zealand has issued a press release about air pollution, raising concerns about particles 2.5 microns and smaller which are not currently monitored.

Caroline Lucas, Green Party Member of the European Parliament from England and Wales, is calling on Greens and allies to pledge to reduce our personal carbon emissions by ten percent by 2010. Ms. Lucas is also interviewed by The Guardian about how cash plays a role in British politics, making it difficult for smaller parties like the Greens to be heard.

The Irish Times is reporting that Greens and opposition parties are being encouraged to meet to discuss support for the Treaty of Lisbon, which would change how the European Parliament functions.

The Oshaw Express is reporting on what they call “Not quite a green party machine”. This is a detailed report on one of Canada’s Green Party efforts, looking to grow the Green Party beyond their current 11% base of support.
