Green Party Presidential Candidate Roseanne Barr is aligned with the Green Party Platform on Israel and Palestine

From the Roseanne Barr Campaign:

Achieving Peace in Israel and Palestine
Roseanne for President 2012
April 17, 2012

Roseanne’s solutions for Peace in Israel and Palestine are deeply rooted in her own spiritual traditions, common sense thinking, alignment with the Green Party platform and a sincere desire to see equitable and humane resolutions for the benefit of all the people that live in the region.

Since 1948 each American president has “guaranteed security” for Israel by giving them a blank check for American dollars and military hardware. Congressmen and Senators fall all over themselves to offer more money and weapons.

“I hold to nothing but envisioning international peace and utopia. We all have many more things in common than not. I’ve tried to get to the very bottom of the whole subject, and I say it’s the entire world’s fault, not just Israel’s and not just the Jews for allowing the terrible crimes against humanity, the ethnic cleansing that is happening in Gaza right now. No government in the Middle East is innocent. Wars make the stock market go up, so no one in America is innocent either, nor anyone anywhere where capitalism reigns.” Roseanne Barr on NoLiesRadio in 2010. See: http://noliesradio.org/archives/22098

Foreign policy, wars, cease-fires, assassinations, conflicts, bombings, peace talks, walls, settlements, land grabs, flotillas, piracy and hijackings at sea, and “which side are you on” have been discussed and debated for decades regarding peace in between Israel and Palestine. The information has been read about on the front pages of every newspaper, been rotated on every news website, and viewed on the evening news programs.

After getting the presidential nomination in 2008 the first speech Barack Obama gave was to AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) where he pledged his continued support for the apartheid regime. See: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91150432

Currently the blockade situation for the people of Gaza has become dire. The people that live there are incarcerated in an open air prison. There is little sanitation, dirty water, no safe food, no medicine, little medical care, continued attacks by land and by air, few necessary supplies being smuggled in and few people going out. These are crimes against humanity and this is apartheid.

In the most recent news, Israel has severed tied with the UN’s Human Rights Council. See: http://www.eurasiareview.com/14042012-israel-palestine-and-the-human-rights-council-oped/

Peace in Israel and Palestine will happen when there is self determination for all and a “right of return” for the Palestinians who have had their land stolen from them. When the US government stops funding the Israeli war machine, when the Wall comes down, and when the people living there organize their own discussion of how to govern themselves they will be able to work out their differences. Their land is small, the resources scarce and a one state solution, with real democracy and justice for all seems the best approach towards a true and lasting peace.

“Peace starts in the Middle East with people speaking to each other intelligently about solutions.” Roseanne Barr on the Wise Women Media Radio Show, March 2012.

Green Party to President Obama: Hands off Iran; work for nuclear-free Mideast and restore goodwill with people of Iran

From the Green Party of the United States:

WASHINGTON, DC — Green Party candidates and leaders said today that the US must avoid a military confrontation with Iran by diplomacy based on the goal of ridding the Middle East and Asia of nuclear weapons, including Israel, Pakistan, and India.

The Green Party strongly opposes a military attack on Iran, a country that poses no threat to the US. Greens compared the deceptive rhetoric now being used to vilify Iran with the Bush Administration’s fraudulent justifications for a war on Iraq nearly ten years ago, with unconfirmed allegations about Iran’s plans for nuclear arms taking the place of Iraqi WMDs.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Green Party’s presidential contenders will discuss foreign policy and other topics in a live online chat with viewer participation during President Obama’s 2012 State of the Union address, to be aired on the Green Party’s Livestream channel (http://www.gp.org/press/pr-national.php?ID=471).

Jill Stein, candidate for the Green Party’s 2012 presidential nomination (http://www.jillstein.org): “The threats of an assault on Iran by Israel or the U.S., or both, are igniting tensions that could erupt into a larger conflict. If we object to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the first step in resolving these tensions is to recognize that no nation has a ‘right’ to possess nuclear weapons. The possession of such weapons by any country in the region is a motivation for other countries to obtain them as well, and Iran has unfriendly nuclear nations on either side, being Israel and Pakistan. The United States should press Iran’s neighbors to divest themselves of their nuclear arsenals and to use such pressure as the basis for good-faith negotiation with Iran.” Continue Reading

Green Party endorses Sept. 15 Rally for Palestine at UN

WASHINGTON, DC — The Green Party of the United States has endorsed the Thursday, September 15 Palestine Rally at the United Nations, in support of the right of self-determination for Palestinians.

The march and rally (http://al-awdany.org/2011/07/sept-15-palestine-rally-at-the-united-nations), scheduled to take place in advance of a UN vote on recognition of Palestinian statehood, are sponsored by the Palestine UN Solidarity Coalition.

Participants will call for the US to cut off aid for Israel, for Israel to end its occupation of the Palestinian territories, and for national and international boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel until it complies with numerous resolutions promising Palestinians their basic rights.  The Green Party has consistently supported these goals and spoken out publicly for sovereignty, equality, and the right of return for Palestinians, including an end to apartheid inside Israel. Colia Clark, NY Green for US Senate, challenges Schumer’s support of Gaza siege

Colia Clark, the New York Green Party nominee for the US Senate seat presently occupied by Charles Schumer, said today that she was appalled by recent statements by Schumer supporting the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza, which is causing a humanitarian crisis there.

Schumer, speaking last week at an Orthodox Union event in Washington, D.C. said he supported the blockade out of the need “to strangle them economically until they see that’s not the way to go, makes sense.”

“How can it be that a US Senator is calling for economic genocide against the People of Gaza and Palestine when he states that the besieged and endangered people of Gaza should be, “strangled economically”? It’s urgent that the people of New York stand up to Senator Schumer for his violent speech. Senator Schumer must be sent a clear message that New York State is not in favor of any form of violence against those who seek to lift the weight of oppression from their backs. The people of New York abhor genocide through naked violence or economic genocide,” said Clark.

“As US Senator from New York, I propose to wage a campaign for a peaceful settlement of the Gaza crisis that respects the legitimate claims of the Palestinian Peoples and the right of the People of Israel to statehood. A Two State solution is the only way out of the present crisis. This means Israel dismantling all settlements in Palestinian territory and discontinuing the naked violence against Palestine in Gaza and on the open seas. Palestine must halt unprovoked assaults on the State of Israel. In the interest of the Middle East and world peace, Israel and Palestine must resolve this 62 year old dispute by uncovering ways to live in mutual harmony,” added Clark. Continue Reading

Green Party condemns Freedom Flotilla massacre, urges immediate aid cutoff and end to impunity for Israel

WASHINGTON, DC — The Green Party of the United States condemns the attack by the Israeli navy on Gaza-bound humanitarian aid ships in international wates near Cyprus, which have left at least 19 human rights activists dead and at least 50 wounded.

“The attacks on the aid boats is a criminal act of piracy and a deliberate provocation,” said Dr. Justine McCabe, co-chair of the Green Party’s International Committee (http://www.gp.org/committees/intl).

“We demand immediate action from the US, including emergency orders from President Obama to cut off all aid to Israel.  The policies of the US regarding Israel and Palestine up to now have convinced Israel that it can act with impunity in committing massacres and massive human violations against Palestinian civilians.  These illegal and atrocious actions now include the murder of other countries’ citizens in international waters,” added Dr. McCabe, who recently returned to the US from Haifa, where she participated in a coalition of over 400 Jewish and Palestinian Israelis and internationals who met to promote the growing call for the one democratic state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Israel had earlier threatened to seize the Freedom Flotilla ships and arrest the activists when they entered Gaza coastal waters, but instead executed a surprise maneuver at night in international waters that resulted in death and mayhem for nonviolent activists attempting to deliver 10,000 tons of supplies to the people of Gaza.

2008 Green presidential nominee Cynthia McKinney has released a statement on the massacre (“Cynthia McKinney Mourns the Dead of the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza: People of the US and the world must end Israeli impunity now!,” http://gp.org/cynthia/display.php?ID=36).  Ms. McKinney, a former member of Congress from Georgia, was one of 21 human rights activists on board the Free Gaza relief boat seized by the Israeli navy in international waters when it tried to deliver medical and other humanitarian aid to Gaza in June 2009, in the wake of Israel’s invasion of Gaza.

Ms. McKinney and the other activists were held in an Israeli jail for several days.  See Green Party press releases issued between June 25 and July 14, 2009, on the party’s media page (http://www.gp.org/press.php).

“The US government’s lack of response to the seizing of the Free Gaza boat and jailing of a former member of Congress was interpreted by Israel as a license for even more extreme illegal actions,” said Starlene Rankin, co-chair of the Lavender Green Caucus (http://www.gp.org/caucuses/lavender/index.php).  “We urge all Americans who value justice, human rights, and peace to put pressure on the White House and on their Representatives and Senators to move right now to stop all aid to Israel and seek international condemnation of these acts.”

“We also urge Americans to be wary of the justifications for Israel’s crimes that will come from politicians, media commentators, AIPAC, and other apologists for Israel.  These justifications are meant to cover up atrocities, including yesterday’s murderous attack on the Freedom Flotilla,” said Ms. Rankin. Greens to OECD: Reject Israel’s bid for membership until Israeli gov’t observes human rights

WASHINGTON, DC — Leaders of the Green Party of the United States are urging the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) not to accept Israel’s application for membership until Israel observes international law and alters its human rights policies in its treatment of Palestianians.

“Israel continues to violate the OECD’s fundamental values and should not be rewarded with increased trade — which would access to more military contracts,” said Michael Canney, Florida Green and member of the Green Party’s International Committee (http://www.gp.org/committees/intl).  “Israel’s intractable, brutal, and humiliating treatment of Palestinians within its own borders and in the Occupied Territories, including the recent invasion and mass killings of civilians in Gaza, deserves international condemnation.  Greens have called for economic boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel until it reverses its current policies.  The OECD should deny Israel membership until the Israeli government lifts the strangling economic restrictions it has placed on the Palestinian people, cancels the construction of settlements and displacement of Palestinians in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and abides by international law and the OECD’s own principles.” Continue Reading

Greens: US must press Israel to end settlements; divestment urged as Israeli outrages continue

Greens: President Obama must press Israel to end East Jerusalem settlements

• Green Party urges divestment as Israeli outrages mount

WASHINGTON, DC — President Obama must put pressure on Israel immediately to stop the construction of settlements and displacement of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, Green Party leaders and candidates said today.

“President Obama should send Prime Minister Netanyahu a message: enough is enough.  If Israel continues to violate Palestinian human rights, the US must cancel the $30 million military aid package pledged to Israel for 2009-2018.  The plan to build 1,600 housing units for Israeli Jews in East Jerusalem is the latest outrage.  Although a rumored US abstension from a possible UN Security Council resolution against the settlements would be an improvement over its usual veto on Israel’s behalf, this would still be an act of moral cowardice,” said Sanda Everette, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States.  Continue Reading

McKinney Barred From South Africa Trip

News 24 in South Africa is reporting that Cynthia McKinney was abruptly removed from a flight to South Africa, where she was to be a speaker at the Palestinian Struggle and Human Spirit Film Festival:

Cape Town – A controversial former member of the American congress and a 2008 presidential candidate, Cynthia McKinney, was abruptly removed from a South African Airways flight on Tuesday.

McKinney, who stood against President Barack Obama at an early stage in the race for the US presidency, was barred from boarding an SAA flight to Johannesburg in Washington DC.

She would have travelled to South Africa to act as international guest speaker on the Channel 4 network’s first Palestinian Struggle and Human Spirit film festival, which will be held in Athlone from Friday to Sunday.

Passport irregularities

According to SAA, McKinney was refused access to the flight because there were irregularities with her passport.

She became known worldwide when, in her capacity as senator, she introduced articles of impeachment against former US president George W Bush, former vice-president Dick Cheney, and former secretary of state Condaleezza Rice, over the 9/11 attacks and their roles in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

McKinney was recently arrested by the Israeli navy for participating in a Free Gaza Movement boat trip in protest against the occupation of Gaza.

Channel 4 said on Wednesday it is still unclear whether she will be allowed to enter the country.

McKinney reaches Don DeBar, John Judge by phone

In a posting to a webpage at her official MySpace page, reports of conversations between Cynthia McKinney and WBAIX reporter Don DeBar and her Press Secretary from her 2008 presidential bid, John Judge are posted.

Cynthia McKinney was able to get a call out to a colleague, Don Debar, she sends a message that she is fine, keep calling, faxing and emailing. Keep protesting, too! She is being held at the Ramle Prison in Israel…she has seen an attorney today provided by Free Gaza. She had no information on any of the 21 being released. Mairead Maguire is possibly being held or detained somewhere else. FREE the FREE GAZA 21! Demand that Israel return the ship along with the DANGEROUS CARGO–CRAYONS!

From John Judge:

John Judge (Press Secretary during the 2008 campaign) sent this tonight: I just got a call from former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney from inside an Israeli prison at Ramale where she and 20 other humanitarian aid workers from 9 different countries are still being held by Israeli authorities. US Embassy officials have spoken to Ms. McKinney and are aware of the situation. Four of the group are US citizens. Among them is Mairead Maguire, from Ireland, a Nobel laureate and renowned peace activist. They have named themselves the “Free Gaza 21.” They are demanding their release. They were in international waters on a boat delivering humanitarian aid to people in Gaza when Israeli Navy ships surrounded them and illegally threatened them, dismantled their navigation equipment, boarded and confiscated the ship. All those aboard were then taken off the ship and into custody, and brought into Israel and imprisoned. Immigration officials in Israel said they did not want to keep them, but they remain imprisoned. State Department and White House officials have not effected their release or taken a strong public stance to condemn the illegal actions of the Israeli Navy, enforcing a blockade of humanitarian assistance that has been condemned by President Obama.
